Govinda was shy to notice girls, Akshay Kumar had many girlfriends: Guddi Maruti

Veteran Bollywood actor Guddi Maruti, known for her comedic roles, recently opened up about her experience of working with 90s hit stars Akshay Kumar and Govinda. She shared that while Govinda was shy around girls, Akshay Kumar was “flirtatious” on set. She even mentioned knowing about two or three of Akshay’s girlfriends.
Speaking to YouTuber Siddharth Kannan, Guddi Maruti, 63, said, “All the heroes were chalu (clever), but not Govinda. He used to stay so busy with his work. We would say, ‘Chi Chi, even if a girl walks in front of you in a bikini, you wouldn’t notice her. You would only notice her smile and nothing else.’ He was genuinely like that—always engrossed in his work.”
She added that Govinda would get shy if any actress tried to woo him.
Talking about Akshay, Guddi, who worked with him in films like Khiladi, Sainik, Mr. and Mrs. Khiladi, said, “Kaafi girlfriends thi uski (He had many girlfriends). I know of his two or three lovely girlfriends, but I can’t say how many more he dated. On set, he was always very nice to work with. He was a mastikhor.”
However, Guddi Maruti mentioned that Akshay never dated two or three girls simultaneously, yet he was considered a heartbreaker. “He would act so naive, but later we heard so many stories about him,” she added.
Recalling the old days when actors kept their relationships discreet on film sets, Guddi shared, “We would often learn who was seeing whom during film shoots, as they would sneak into each other’s rooms. Acha, raat ko ye ho raha tha (Oh, this was happening at night). Actors would come and complain to me that the actress’s mother was accompanying her and hindering their romance. ‘Roz uthke aajate hai set pe’ (She comes to set every day),’ they would tell me. I would respond that the mother was accompanying the heroine because of them. Beti ko bacha rahi hai woh (She is protecting her daughter).”
Guddi Maruti, who started her acting career at the age of 10, starred in popular films like Khiladi, Shola Aur Shabnam, Aashik Aawara, Dulhe Raja, and Biwi No. 1, among others.
